If your menu items cannot be selected:
Ensure you move your mouse pointer off the menu when you refresh the page, otherwise the menu may "freeze".
If your menu disappears or comes up with an error
It is most likely due to one of these reasons:
1. You have added or deleted a site section or web page and forgot to update the menu order.
2. The menu order has been renumbered incorrectly.
3. You have used punctuation in the title of your sections or pages.
4. You have used the same name twice in the menu.
5. Title of section is the same name as one of the tools eg. contacts
One of the most common errors is caused by not realising that the community tools such as web links, document store, etc, don't appear in the list of sections in Manage site sections, as the system considers them tools, not site sections, even though they appear on the main menu. It is then a simple mistake to create a site section called Web Links for example, and your menu will instantly disappear, as the system finds the tool section called Web Links and also the new site section called Web Links, has a fit, and closes the menu down.
How to fix it
If your menu has disappeared, select the Text menu option from upper right hand corner of the home page of your community. This will bring a text menu back and allow you to go into the Site Contol area and fix the problem.
Check for punctuation or symbols in the page section names, and ensure that the same page name is not used twice.
Check the menu number order of the section or web pages you have just changed. The items must be numbered using numbers that start at 1 and end in the number of sections or pages you have used, without omitting any numbers.

- Go to your other browser, refresh the home page and see if that was the cause.
Option 2: - If menu bar is still covering picture/text on Home Page then try the following:
- Click onto Secure Area in menu bar, left hand side of screen.
- Click on Site Control then click on button ‘Continue’ and enter your email address and password then click Submit to access this secure area (NB. you will only be able to access this secure area if you have permission to do so).
- Under Community Manager left hand side of screen click on Manage Default page
- Click on Pathway Pages

- Remember to write down what is there so you can put them back in correct order.
- Click on the grey box Delete Item top right hand side of screen
- Click the check box one at a time, then Delete Item to remove items from front page one by one
- After deleting each one, go to your other browser, refresh the home page and see if that one was the cause.
- Keep repeating these steps until you find the item that is causing the problem.
- Do not forget to put the items deleted back into your Home Page when fixed.
Rebuild the menu
If you are still at a loss - select Rebuild the menu. This will force the system to refresh the menu. You won't lose any content.
Other reasons
The vagaries of the Internet...
- Perhaps the upload took so long (bandwidth problems) that it timed out. Try again (even at another time)
- You are trying to upload content at a high usage time (ie lunch time)
- Occasionally the host server is down for repairs (about once every 6 months - but you never know - it's not always your fault!)
If nothing works
1. Close your browser and try again.
2. Contact our community project officer who will work with you to solve the problem.
