All questions are based on the 2009 Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) short listed titles, most of which can possibly be found in your school library. Run your own local competition using the quizzes and online scoring from the Reader's Cup Blackboard site.

Sections:

Lower: Prep - Year 2
Middle: Year 3 - Year 5
Upper: Year 6 - Year 8

Who can participate?

Any cohort of primary students. Teachers can register several teams. Teams could comprise of a whole class, team groups, a Readers Club or an Extension Group. (Teacher-Librarians who deal with many classes could register a team for each class).

Registrations: Complete the online form to register your team. Logon details and instructions will be emailed to you. Registrations close Friday September 4.
How does it work?
Heats:
Over 2 weeks student teams complete their sections quizzes. There is one quiz for each book as well as a combined quiz containing a number of questions from every book. There is no requirement to read all books and complete all quizzes or to take them in any particular order. However, all teams need to get a minimum number of questions correct, depending on which category they are entering, to qualify for the semi-finals.

Lower Quiz:  20 questions
Middle Quiz:  28 questions
Upper Quiz:  40 questions
Heats quiz closes:  4th September 2009 at 5pm.

Semifinals:
Any team that has scored 75% or more in the heats will qualify for the semifinals. Qualifying teams may take the semifinal quiz any time during the semi-final week.
Semi-final week: 7-11 September 2009. Quizzes close for entries at 5pm.

Finals:
The two highest scoring semi-final teams in each section move to the finals.
Finals week: 14-16 September 2009. Quizzes close for entries at 5pm.
How might the Cup be different from normal Readers' Cups? The emphasis is on enjoyment of the books, not memory. Open-book collaborative responses to the quizzes are desirable. Our aim is to provide a multitude of 'teachable moments' as you work through this year’s shortlist with your students. Teachers with limited access to ICT facilities (eg. poor bandwidth or only one classroom computer) will be able to compete on equal terms.
The Prizes: The main prize is the gloryWell... the main prize is the GLORY!

But also the winning team of each section will win a 40 minute online chat with a leading Australian children’s author.

And what about the prize that EVERY team gets? ... the fun of reading and discussing all these great books!
