A joint partnership between Education Queensland's eLearning Branch and Cairns School of Distance Education has lead to the development of  “Technology Bootcamp".  This unique opportunity for technological, physical and personal challenges is for students from rural and remote North Queensland.

The participating students while enhancing their ICT skills, personal strengths and leadership skills, will develop resources which enable them to return to their school and take on a leadership role and deliver workshops to fellow students, their teachers and the wider community.

Here's some quotes about previous Technology Bootcamps.

After Bootcamp IV Taylah returned to school with a great deal of confidence to mentor other students on the computer. She lead a class demonstration focusing on a number of programs she encountered at the camp, (Gamemaker, Flash, movies, Pivot, Landscaping etc.) much to her peers’ enjoyment.   Pivot is widely used in the classroom and Taylah was able to guide some of her classmates a little further and help tweak a few presentations with some guidance and a few hints. The most popular program though was the landscaping, and we had many students, and some teachers, designing spectacular backyards.  So not only did Taylah benefit from the valued experience of Bootcamp through increased knowledge and confidence, but the classroom was also better for it.

After Bootcamp Palm Island, the teachers that attended the professional development sessions had gained skills and build relationships that will support their teaching in the future.

Lil Murtle, Principal St Michaels

The students loved the camp. They have been working very hard on their projects since they have returned,”

Alison Bradford, Principal Bwgcolman Community School.

Opportunities like this were just not available to students in remote areas.

Mr Matt Grosskreutz from Bwgcolman Community School.
