The basic information about your VFT needs to be established and edited when needed. You edit these details by logging into your VFT Management area. There are four sections that you can control in VFT details. Make sure you complete each section as this informs your Partners and interested community members about your project.
(Flash Player and speakers required)
Section 1: General information
Photo control
The photo you add here should be small and indicative of your project. It will show in your VFT project box (under Current projects) and on your VFT info page. Your image should always be in .jpg format.
Archival status
Selecting Current means it is a working active project and will be listed in the Calendar and in the Current projects list. People will be able to view your project. Archived means you can still access it (through Manage Projects) however no one else will be able to view your project. It is over.
Want Partners
Selecting YES means that you are allowing people to request to join your project. They do this by selecting the Join our project button that will automatically appear in your Project box and on your VFT info page. When potential partners register, they don’t automatically enter your project. You need to approve their request through the Manage partners and logins section. Selecting NO means you do not want any more partners. The Join our project button is NOT displayed.
Learning Phase
VFTs are collaborative projects with a strong curriculum focus. Potential partners need to know what learning phase the project is aimed. Make your selection using the drop down list.
Start and end date
Set the start and end date for your project. This will be displayed in the Project box in Current projects. This will help Partner teachers plan and interested community members know when to follow your project.
Section 2: Project details
VFT name
The VFT name will be displayed in your Project box in Current projects and also at the top of your actual VFT project area.
Background information
Select Edit details to enter a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editing area. Use the formatting tools to create an interesting start page for your project. The information you enter here will be displayed in the VFT info home page. Use the Preview option to check the display, grammar and spelling. This information is the base of your project. It is what the main objective (curriculum purpose) of the project is about. This is where you enter your project’s higher order thinking question… the question that student research and investigations are centered around. Craft this page carefully as it should be used by all participants to ensure they are on the right track with their group work.
Mission
The information in this area will be displayed in the Project box in Current projects. It should be short, apt and interesting.
Section 3: Project room details
Communication is at the heart of learning and collaboration. To support the collaboration in your VFT project, create a Project room in the communication area of the Learning Place. Download the How to create a project room help sheet.
Your project room could contain a chat room, forums, blogs, polls and more information pages. Each project room has a unique URL (found in the Project Admin section). Copy and paste this URL into the Edit VFT details section.
You can also create one generic username and password for this project room. This could be used by a Travel Buddy, special guest or your students. This username would not be displayed anywhere. The Project room will automatically be linked from the VFT info page – Communication room.
Section 4: Project owner details
Project owners may change if a situation arises. Update your owner details in this area.
