Introduction

Crossing Cultures is the name of Education Queensland’s cultural awareness Strategy. Increasing awareness among school staff of Indigenous cultures and histories is an important part of improving learning outcomes for Indigenous students. Therefore providing cultural awareness training through this and other workshops is not only a key part of the Partners for Success strategy and the Bound for Success Strategy for Cape York and the Torres Strait but is one of the Principles of Effective Teaching and Learning in teachers knowing the background of their students.

Background

The Big Picture – A Hidden History - Cultures cultural awareness strategy.The strategy seeks to provide background knowledge of past practices, policies and legislation to that impacted on the lives of Indigenous peoples to Education Queensland staff. Participants in this workshop will have already completed theintroductory workshop “It’s Everyone’s Business.”
