Before the project

"Teachers understand the importance of preparing for classroom teaching. Preparing for online projects is also vital to achieving successful project outcomes." Project Pillars

Read the diary of a RAP owner for some handy hints then follow these steps to start your own Rap.

1. Peruse this site and read some examples of Raps to get a feel for the Rap process and Rap Points. You could also participate in the Book Rap Online Learning Course available through the Learning Place, or contact our Learning Place team for support.

2. Select a Book/novel/poetry or film or music that is the base material for the Rap. Consider:

  • Curriculum and learning outcomes
  • Student needs, skills and interests
  • Technology requirements
  • Uniqueness, challenge and sense of fun

2. Develop a curriculum idea which involves higher order thinking questions (Rap Points). The quality of your Rap Points is critical to a successful Rap. They have to be interesting, open ended, deep and allow substantive conversation. It is a good idea to share your Rap Points with other teachers and a few selected students before the Rap to ensure they are excellent.

3. Complete the Rap Request Form.
Please read the form advice before you fill it out as you will be required to provide educationally significant information about your proposed Rap. Once the form is submitted it will alert the Rap Coordinator of your request.

Approval will be based on these criteria:

  • Raps must support student learning outcomes and have clear curriculum links.
  • Raps are collaborative in nature running across more than one school.
  • Project content is educationally appropriate and current.
  • Project owners (ie Owner Teachers) have the support of their Principal and understand the dynamic nature of the COP space and are able to give regular time to support their project participants and project COP web space.
  • Projects are non-profit.

When your Rap is approved you will receive an email and support from your Project Coordinator.  Before you apply for your own Rap it would also be desirable for you to have some experience with implementing this style of project by either completing a Rap online course through the Learning Place; or participating in a Rap as a partner (Rapper).
