General Information

"Communication is central to learning, and an essential key to life success…"  (Dalton, PLOT)

Students enjoy participating in collaborative online projects. These inquiry based projects provide an audience to share ideas, discuss current events and topics with other students, research inquiry questions, question experts and showcase work. The students' work is meaningful and enjoyable.

For many teachers it is also an exciting adventure as they integrate online learning and the power of the Internet into their classroom. Teachers love to teach, and collaborative online projects provide teachers with a vehicle to help students learn.

History and acknowledgements

The Learning Place's Collaborative Online Projects (COP) is based on the wonderful work of oz-TeacherNet, owned and supported by The Research in Information Technology Group, (RITE) of Queensland University of Technology and more recently, the Indigenous Education Training Authority's work (IETA) on student projects led by Michelle Williams.

Working with David Potter from the Netride to develop the COP areas, has allowed us to tap into his vast knowledge and experience, as David has developed both oz-TeacherNet and IETA. The dynamic nature of our COP project areas provides a strong learning scaffold for teachers and students so the focus is on their learnings, their collaborations, communications and their work.

Our heartfelt thanks to all those who have led the way. Our ongoing thank you to those who will provide feedback so we can continue to improve these project areas. And importantly to those teachers who will use our COP to engage their students in meaningful authentic learning experiences.
