Dance

Dance is currently being delivered by the Virtual Schooling Service from BSDE.

Senior Dance

A course in Senior Dance aims to:

  • Help all students achieve their unique potential in and through the arts
  • Facilitate the development and expression of the individual
  • Enable students to value the human body as an instrument of communication
  • Encourage students to value individual aesthetic responses
  • Foster an appreciation of a range of cultural contexts within Australia and the rest of the world
  • Develop critically informed and aesthetically appreciative audiences of dance
  • Encourage ongoing involvement in dance and related arts
  • Explore and develop abilities and skills appropriate to a range of work and other life paths.

QSA Authority Subjects

Dance is an authority subject, which means the course of study is based on a syllabus that has been approved and issued by the QSA. Results from Authority subjects can count in the calculation of OPs.

Assessable Learning Areas in Dance

  • Choreographing
Students use dance components to create movement and to make dances. Through choreography, students develop an understanding that dance is a method for self-expression and communication.
  •  Performing
Performance is concerned with the development of physical and expressive skills. Learning challenging dances will help students to develop positive self-esteem and build confidence in personal physicality.
  • Appreciating
Appreciation involves students in analysing their own and others’ dances.

All three learning areas in dance are weighted equally therefore a senior dance student must be equally confident and committed to writing, performing and creating.

    Units of Study

Dance will provide students with the opportunity to create works, reflect on their learning and challenge and celebrate their learning through units, which may include:

    • Funk Dance
    • Musical Theatre
    • World Dance
    • Contemporary Dance

    Specific Technology Requirements

    Videoconferencing technology.

For more information see the Dance Fact Sheet.
